Marietta Area Insider TipsThe Inside Scoop From Seasoned I-75 Travelers
Traffic & Timing: Avoid rush hours religiously** (7-9:30 AM and 4-7 PM weekdays). The "Big Chicken" interchange where I-75 meets I-285 can become a parking lot. If you must travel during these times, add 30-45 minutes to your estimate.
Speed Traps: Cobb County police are aggressive, especially near the Delk Road and Windy Hill exits. Stay within 5-7 mph of the limit through this stretch. They often patrol the left lane from overpasses.
The Big Chicken Landmark: You'll see a giant 56-foot steel chicken (KFC) near exit 263. Use it as your navigation landmark - locals give directions based on it ("2 exits past the Big Chicken"). It's also a good mental checkpoint that you're approaching the busy I-285 interchange.
Emergency Alternate: If I-75 is completely jammed, exit 263 to South Cobb Drive runs parallel to the highway and can be faster during major backups, though it has traffic lights.
